Speciale filmprogrammering ter viering van Keti Koti.
(EN Below) Op 1 juli vieren we bij Filmhuis Den Haag Keti Koti, de dag waarop we de afschaffing van de slavernij herdenken en de vrijheid vieren. Tijdens deze bijzondere dag vertonen we vier indrukwekkende films die de geschiedenis, cultuur en verhalen van de slavernij en haar afschaffing belichten. Naast het bekijken van deze films kun je luisteren naar spoken word-artiesten en je verdiepen in een Keti Koti talk over de complexiteit van het onderwerp, gehost door Benedicta Anasagasti, afgestudeerd in decolonial practices.
Dit jaar werken we samen met SV Tribez en Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr, die deze bijzondere randprogrammering hebben samengesteld.
Voor slechts 5 euro kun je naar eigen keuze vrij in- en uitlopen tussen de films.

18:00 - Vrede, herinneringen aan Anton de Kom (2012, Ida Does): Bekroonde documentaire over schrijver en antikoloniale strijder Anton de Kom. Duur: 40 minuten. Taal: Nederlands, Sranantongo gesproken. Nederlandse ondertiteling.
20:05 - Oema foe Sranan (1978, At van Praag) & Strijd op 16 mm (2022): Oema foe Sranan / Vrouwen van Suriname (1978) is een documentaire, gemaakt in context van de destijds recente onafhankelijkheid van Suriname. De film volgt vier vrouwen die door middel van persoonlijke verhalen de geschiedenis van (neo-)kolonialisme daar in Suriname, en racisme hier in Nederland, vertellen.
Tegelijk met de restauratie van Oema foe Sranan is de korte documentaire Strijd op 16mm geproduceerd, die de verhalen over de toenmalige totstandkoming en vertoning van deze onderbelichte activistische film vastlegt. Deze korte documentaire wordt vertoond ter introductie van de gerestaureerde film Oema Foe Sranan. Duur: 75 minuten. Taal: Nederlands, Sranantongo gesproken. Nederlandse ondertiteling.

Maak kennis met Kenny Gomes en Elisa Olenski, twee talentvolle spoken word artiesten die beiden op hun eigen creatieve manier in het onderwerp van Keti Koti zullen duiken.
19:20 - 20:00: Keti Koti Talk gehost door Benedicta Anasagasti (1992)
Benedicta zal tijdens de viering van Keti Koti op 1 juli spreken over de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse slavernij op (voornamelijk) Curaçao, maar ook op andere eilanden zoals Aruba en Bonaire. Tijdens deze Keti Koti Talk zal Benedicta bespreken hoe dit koloniale verleden jongere generaties nog steeds beïnvloedt en waarom het belangrijk is voor jonge mensen, vooral uit Caribisch gebied, om actief deel te nemen aan gesprekken rondom Keti Koti.
Over Benedicta Anasagasti (1992)
Benedicta begon op de universiteit te schrijven over dekoloniale praktijken. Ze studeerde sociologie en raakte geïnteresseerd in hoe kolonialisme van invloed is op de moderne samenleving.
Over SV Tribez
SV Tribez, opgericht in 2019, is een studentenvereniging in Den Haag die studenten van Afrikaanse afkomst en haar diaspora versterkt en opleidt. Door educatieve activiteiten, deels in samenwerking met partners, streeft Tribez ernaar studenten te empoweren en te onderwijzen over de zwarte cultuur en hen voor te bereiden op de professionele wereld.
Over Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr
Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr biedt een podium voor films van zwarte makers en verhalen uit de Afrikaanse diaspora. Deze distributeur, gerund door Peggy Gemerts, heeft een focus op diversiteit en de missie om zwarte filmmakers en filmmakers van kleur een platform te bieden. Naast zelfstandige releases van Afro-Caribische, Afro-Amerikaanse, Zuid-Afrikaanse en Indo-Afrikaanse verhalen, verzorgt Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr filmprogrammering voor festivals zoals Black Achievement Month en Read My World. Daarnaast ondersteunt de organisatie producenten als Yalla Docs (Feis Forever) en distributeurs bij de release van hun films, waaronder Queen & Slim, Buladó en Kokomo City.
On July 1st, at Filmhuis Den Haag, we celebrate Keti Koti, the day on which we commemorate the abolition of slavery and celebrate freedom. During this special day, we will screen four impressive films that highlight the history, culture, and stories of slavery and its abolition. In addition to viewing these films, you can listen to spoken word artists and engage in a Keti Koti talk about the complexity of the topic, hosted by Benedicta Anasagasti, a graduate in decolonial practices.
This year, we are collaborating with SV Tribez and Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr, who have curated this special fringe programming.
For just 5 euros, you can freely enter and exit between films of your choice. Prior to the first screening session, you can enjoy drinks in Studio A. Further details about additional program activities will follow later.

8.10 PM - Oema foe Sranan (1978, At van Praag) & Strijd op 16mm (2022): Oema foe Sranan / Women of Suriname (1978) is a documentary made in the context of Suriname's recent independence. The film follows four women who narrate the history of (neo-)colonialism in Suriname and racism in the Netherlands through personal stories.
Alongside the restoration of Oema foe Sranan, the short documentary Strijd op 16mm was produced, capturing the stories behind the making and screening of this overlooked activist film. Meet Kenny Gomes and Elisa Olenski, two talented Spoken Word artists who will creatively delve into the theme of Keti Koti in their own ways.
7:20 - 8 PM: Keti Koti Talk hosted by Benedicta Anasagasti (1992)
During the Keti Koti celebration on July 1st, Benedicta will discuss the history of Dutch slavery, primarily in Curaçao, but also on other islands such as Aruba and Bonaire. During this Keti Koti Talk, Benedicta will explore how this colonial past still influences younger generations and why it's crucial for young people, especially from the Caribbean, to actively engage in discussions about Keti Koti.
About Benedicta Anasagasti (1992)
Benedicta began writing about decolonial practices at university. She studied sociology and became interested in how colonialism impacts modern society.
About SV Tribez
Founded in 2019, SV Tribez is a student association in The Hague that empowers and educates students of African descent and its diaspora. Through educational activities, partly in collaboration with partners, Tribez aims to empower students, educate them about Black culture, and prepare them for the professional world.
About Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr
Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr provides a platform for films by Black creators and stories from the African diaspora. Led by Peggy Gemerts, this distributor focuses on diversity and aims to provide a platform for Black and filmmakers of color. In addition to independent releases of Afro-Caribbean, Afro-American, South African, and Indo-African stories, Full Colour Entertainment/Pepr handles film programming for festivals such as Black Achievement Month and Read My World.
