IN ASSOCIATION WITH ARAB FILM FESTIVAL

In "The Teacher," Farah Nabulsi's compelling feature debut, the lives of a Palestinian schoolteacher and an American couple converge in a story of loss, resistance, and the search for justice. Basem El-Saleh (Saleh Bakri), a teacher mourning his son's death and the end of his marriage, finds new purpose in helping his students, Adam and Yacoub, navigate the upheaval of their home's demolition. His bond with a British social worker (Imogen Poots), assigned to assist Yacoub, deepens as they share their traumatic pasts.

Parallel to Basem's story, an American diplomat and his wife face the agony of negotiating the release of their son, a soldier kidnapped by a Palestinian group. The group's demand for the release of over 1,000 prisoners in exchange sets off a tense standoff, with the search for the soldier unexpectedly bringing the diplomat's and Basem's worlds crashing together in Basem's neighborhood.

As the search intensifies, Adam's burgeoning anger and Basem's commitment to resistance threaten to escalate the situation beyond control. Set against the backdrop of occupied territory, "The Teacher" intertwines these disparate lives into a narrative that explores the lengths to which individuals will go when driven by grief and the desire for justice. Directed by the Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning Nabulsi, and inspired by true events, the film is anchored by Bakri's powerful performance, offering a poignant look at the personal costs of political conflict.

EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF ARAB CINEMA!

Arabian Film Nights is an initiative by the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival, offering a carefully curated program of films every month that provide a glimpse into the Arab world, hosted in a setting reflecting the atmosphere of Arab culture. This initiative not only provides a platform for viewing films but also creates space for in-depth discussions with experts on the themes and stories portrayed in each film. By sharing stories that provide insight into Arab culture and experiences, we aim to bridge the gap between two cultures and promote a better understanding.

We invite everyone to explore these stories with us in a modest setup that highlights the diversity and complexity of the Arab world. Our goal is to share the versatility of Arab cinema and celebrate the unique stories it has to offer. Come and discover with us the personal stories that provide a fresh perspective on the Arab world every month.
